Taking care of your list personally is considered cheating

Scoring Table

When someone dies, figure their score by adding the appropriate points from table 1 and table 2.  For sports teams or colleges, must be a current player or coach.

Raising or Lowering the Bar

   Progressive BPs are awarded each time a new oldest or youngest fogey passes on.  The rewards start at one point for the first time the bar moves (that would be with the 3rd fogey each season), then adding on one additional point each time after that.

Companies

If the company goes into bankruptcy or is the junior part of a merger, scoring is as follows in the table below.

On A Roll

If one team gets two fogeys in a row, they are considered to be on a roll.  The 2nd consecutive fogey gets 2 bonus points; third consecutive fogey gets 3 bonus points, etc.
The order will be taken from the posting order on the deadoraliveinfo.com web site.

BODY COUNT

3 bonus pts awarded each time a team breaks a tie to take the body count lead.  The body count BPs start with the first team to reach two.

Celebrity Couples

We grant 5 pts for a celebrity couple breakup.

Sports Teams

Earn points if an active player or coach dies.

Daily Double

Two fogeys from the same team dying on the same day earns ten bonus points.

Lucky 13

2 BPs for anyone who dies on the 13th.

Party Pooper

5 BPs for fogeys who die on one of these days:

Supreme Court Justice Retires

One BP and 1/2 body count is awarded if a Supreme steps down from the bench.

Same Incident

Two or more fogeys going out in the same incident (regardless of team):
Five bonus points apiece

Spot the Fogey

Anyone who sees a DPool fogey in our daily lives (not in concert or whatever) should report the incident back to the group.  The spotter will earn three Bonus Points for his team and the team the fogey is on also earns three BPs.

One Fogey List Member Killing Another

One member of the fogey list kills off another member of the list:
Five bonus points each for the killer and killee

One Fogey Killing anybody

If a fogey kills somebody:
One point for each victim, with a maximum of 5

The Kids Can Help Out Too

When the child of a fogey dies, 2 pts for the fogey's team.  5 pts if it's a suicide or drug overdose.

 

The Draft

A team will be drafted for you. The draft is random, and everyone's roster is locked in after draft day (unless you make a trade).  All you have to do to get in the game is say you want to play.  You will be updated whenever something happens.  Once you have a team, select your Franchise Fogeys, Manchurian Candidate/Targets, Deathwish Fogeys and Bounty Hunters.

Franchise Fogey

A FF gets double points + 5 bonus points.
   If FF passes on before Sept 1st, team is granted an automatic entry into the Chase for the Coffin.  Like JCFFL's Bundy rule, up to 1/2 of all playoff teams can FF their way in... so for example, if there were 12 teams, 6 make the Chase, and only the first three FF's qualify for automatic entry into the Chase.

When you receive your roster list at the beginning of the season, choose three FF's.  If you don't choose your FF's by January 15 the FF window is closed and you cannot have any FFs that year.
Once you have designated a member of your roster with the franchise tag, you are locked into that fogey until s/he dies, the season ends, or the fogey is traded away.  If a FF dies or is traded, you get to choose a replacement from your roster.

Death Wish Fogeys

Pick three fogeys from your roster that you think have lived long enough.  You must dislike these fogeys.
10 bonus points awarded if a deathwish fogey under 75 yrs old dies.  
5 pts awarded if a deathwish fogey age 75+ dies.  

Manchurian Candidates

Pick three Manchurian Candidates from your own roster.  If one of your MCs die, score regular points +5.
The next fogey to die (from any team) died because of a subliminal command from a mind control chip that the MC planted in the brain of the follow-up fogey.
 Scoring:  The follow-up fogey scores points for his team and the MC's team.

Bounty Hunters

Each team can choose three Bounty Hunters from its own roster.
If a photograph of the Bounty Hunter appears on the front page of the USA Today, above the fold, the BH can poach five fogeys onto their own roster.  Franchise Fogeys are protected from Bounty Hunters.
The Bounty Hunter can spread out the five fogeys s/he takes between different teams if desired.
Once you choose a BH your choice cannot be changed unless the BH leaves your roster for one reason or another. 

A team is open for poaching if it neglected to choose any one of these:  Franchise Fogeys, Bounty Hunters, Deathwish Fogeys, Manchurian Candidates

Zombies

The zombie is like a bounty hunter, except the zombies are dead. 
Pick any three dead people as your zombies.  If a zombie makes the front page of USA Today, s/he arises from the grave and poaches 5 fogeys off another team.
There is no list to choose from, so just think of any three dead people.  I don't care how long they were dead, or what they were famous for.  Examples: Elvis, Abraham Lincoln, Anna Nicole Smith.  There are no restrictions.  You can take Jesus if you want.  I don't even care if multiple teams pick the same zombie. 

Politicians

Congressmen of course will score pts like any other fogey in the event of passing on.  But they also can earn Bonus Points throughout the year for various bad behavior.  Here is a sampling of events that House/Senate category fogeys can earn BPs for:

Politician fogeys are grouped by state.  Spouses of politicians score at the rate of 0.5 x the table for their incidents.

Oops

If a listed fogey turns out to have been already dead prior to the DPool season start, we just say oops and don't award any points. 

FFF = Former Franchise FogeyS

The FFF designation means a Franchise Fogey lasted through a season and is still at large.  
The first time a FFF makes it through a season alive, it "starts the clock" on them.  The year they earned the Franchise tag and lived is noted after their name.  All time after that is considered to be "living on borrowed time".
  When the FFF dies, take the current year and subtract the year s/he was first designated as a FF.  Each year lived on borrowed time is worth one Bonus Point.  If the fogey was FFF'd multiple times, add 2 BPs for each addt'l time getting the franchise tag.
Example:  Estelle Getty (FFF 2004, 2007) dies in 2008.  BP score is ((2008-2004)+2).

Unlisted FOGEYs

  The last place team gets 1 point if a famous person who is not on anyone's fogey roster dies.  The rule of thumb to determine famousness will be roughly =  front page of USA Today, above the fold, is famous enough.
  In case of a tie, the team whose fogey passed away earliest will be considered to be in last place.  The only time more than one team will be considered to be in last place is if more than one team has zero points.

The REGULAR season

The DPool regular season starts each January 1st and runs through August 31st. 

Tiebreaker

In case of a tie, the team with the most recently passed away fogey wins.  The order will be taken from the posting order on the deadoraliveinfo.com web site.

Mercy KILLING Rule

If the first place team gets 50 points ahead of 2nd place, the season is over via "mercy killing" rule.

Chase for the Coffin

The last quarter of the season is the race to the finish line known as the Chase for the Coffin. 
On September 1st teams in the top half of the standings are in the Chase for the Coffin.  These teams receive a 50 point bonus for being in the Chase.
The bottom half of the league still score points as usual for any dead fogeys, but the 50 pt. Chase bonus all but eliminates them from ascending into the top half of the standings.

MARBLES

Everybody participates in Marbles once the Chase starts.  By default, the top 20 in alphabetical order on each team are your marbles.  If you want to choose your own 20 marbles instead of taking the default top 20 (recommended), you have until Sept. 15 to do so. 
 When a Marble passes on, you get the normal pts, +2 bonus for being a Marble, and you can deduct the same amount of points from any team of your choosing.  A team can crash the same team a maximum of three times.  One week time limit for a team owner to choose team to crash or else the marble is lost.

The Marbles were inspired by NASCAR's tradition of non-Chase cars getting tangled up with contenders and hurting their chances at the Cup.  

Definition of marbles from nascar.com:
Bits of rubber that have been shaved off tires and dirt and gravel blown to the outside of a corner by the wind created by passing vehicles comprise the "marbles" that are often blamed by drivers for causing them to lose control.

RUSSIAN ROULETTE

On Sept 1st, Commish uses a dice roll to determine which non-Chase team is to be blown away.  The killed team's fogeys are evenly and randomly distributed amongst the teams in the Chase.
